Policies
User Conduct and Comments
The university maintains various social media accounts to support its mission and goals. The university may moderate comments and other user-generated content on its institutional social media accounts in a manner consistent with the First Amendment and other applicable laws.
The university may remove or hide content that infringes intellectual property rights under applicable law; constitutes spam, commercial solicitation, or promotion of third-party products, services, or events unrelated to the subject matter or purpose of the account or post; or falls within a category of speech unprotected by the First Amendment, including true threats of unlawful violence, incitement to imminent lawless action, and obscenity, as those categories are defined by applicable law.
The university may also report content to social media platforms when it has a good-faith basis to believe the content violates the platform's community standards. Such reports will not be made for the purpose of suppressing constitutionally protected expression based on disagreement with the viewpoint expressed.
The university will apply its content moderation standards in a viewpoint-neutral manner. The university may refer potentially threatening or unlawful conduct, including reports of discriminatory harassment, to appropriate university officials for evaluation and response consistent with applicable law and university policies.
University-generated Content
To prevent miscommunication or confusion, the university may, in limited instances, remove its own posted content from social accounts if and when a post contains errors, promotes an event or program that has since been canceled, or relates to a campus emergency that has since been resolved.
